But the human ego, even while chanting the name of Hari or Shiva does not contemplate the day this body, and all its associated grandeur is reduced to nothing. In the north, when someone dies, the body is referred to as 'mitti' meaning mud. They would ask, 'mitti kab uthegi?', so that they can proceed with their normal household routines, as it is customary in our villages and small towns still, to wait for the body to be taken for cremation, before houses and front yards washed and cooking commenced -- especially if they are in the same street. I still wonder what were the thoughts that came to his mind at that time.
I also have seen a death when the man kept chanting Narayana till the end.
I think the way of life to remember God is predetermined according to one's karma that comes in the way of this awareness.padmajahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18297562916603110230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6192530925881976262.post-73292403446269913532011-07-06T08:57:54.698+05:302011-07-06T08:57:54.698+05:30Nice write up and a fact too. I enjoyed your lines: சரோஜா எங்கே,நந்து எங்கே,யச்சுமி எங்கே,நாய் எங்கே,பூனை எங்கே என்று மனைவி மக்களைத்தான் மனம் நாடி தேடி செல்லும்.

Similar thoughts expressed in Ecclesiastes 12th chapter by King Solomon, which I am posting below for your convenience...

1Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come
and the years approach when you will say,
“I find no pleasure in them”—

2before the sun and the light
and the moon and the stars grow dark,
and the clouds return after the rain;

3when the keepers of the house tremble,
and the strong men stoop,
when the grinders cease because they are few,
and those looking through the windows grow dim;

4when the doors to the street are closed
and the sound of grinding fades;
when men rise up at the sound of birds,
but all their songs grow faint;

5when men are afraid of heights
and of dangers in the streets;
when the almond tree blossoms
and the grasshopper drags himself along
and desire no longer is stirred.

Then man goes to his eternal home
and mourners go about the streets.

6Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
or the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
or the wheel broken at the well,

7and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

8“Meaningless!
